Outcome #5

(Document Work MLA) – Document their work using appropriate conventions (MLA)

MLA format is something that I have been working with for quite awhile. Despite that fact I still feel like I never learned it properly. I know this is something I have been over countless times in school but for some reason it never sticks. I always mess up when I have to cite my information and have always relied on websites to do it for me. I also always forget how you are supposed to cite something in the text I mix up the order. In high school I would avoid citation like the plague and it has been something that has been frustrating for me not knowing how to do correctly because it is a skill we use so often in college. Before this semester the only thing that came to my mind when I thought of MLA format was 12 point font times new roman and double spaced.

But I realize after this semester that it is so much more important than that. MLA format gives us a pattern to follow when writing and helps us avoid plagiarism. Here is an example of an in text citation of mine from my 3rd Essay.

This in text citation proves that I have learned a few things about citation in my time here a college. After the quote I put the author and the page # that the quote can be found which is proper MLA citation. Something I would have never done in high school so I believe this is progress.

I have also been able to improve my works cited pages. I still use websites to help myself out don’t get me wrong but now when the website wants me to look for something that the cite isn’t able to find. I’m able to find that information myself and fill in the blanks here is an example of a works cited page I did for an introduction to Arts and Humanities Project.

Creating bibliography and citing information in general is something that I have gotten better at and more used to. I have finally come to accept the fact that in college you must cite your sources there is no more running and the MLA format actually isn’t that bad its just east to mix up.
