Expert Possibilities:

Someone from the Saco River Wildlife Center

Susan Faraday: Head of the Marine Affairs department at UNE

My Cousin: Zak Maybury (CEO of Draftkings)

I think that the Saco River Wildlife Center would be a good opportunity because not a lot of people know all the hardwork and dedication it takes to run a wildlife center like such and it would be educational. I think it could also make people want to visit conservation centers like this one and be more willing to call the wildlife centers if they ever find an animal that needs help.

I think that Susan Faraday would be a good opportunity because she has done a lot of work and research to get to this point in her life and would have a lot of interesting insights on Marine conservation, climate change and management of fisheries. I also know that she would be a reliable interview candidate.

My cousin Zak would be interested because I think it would be interesting to know how he was able to climb the ladder and was able to make it to such a high position in the company in such a short amount of time. I also think it would be interesting to know what exactly he does on a daily basis at his job because I don’t even know.

Unfortunately after multiple tries my first option The Saco river Wildlife center did not reach back out to me for an interview so i’m running a little behind and I have had to go with my second option Mrs. Faraday. Another unfortunate thing about that is that the only time that me and Mrs. Faraday’s schedules don’t line up for an interview until the 27th. But Mrs. Faraday reached back out to me fairly quickly and we have the interview set up time and place.

These are the questions that I plan to ask Mrs. Faraday

Questions

Who were your heroes growing up?

What motivated you to specialize in marine affairs, and what aspects of the field are you most passionate about?

Why did you decide to do a semester at sea?

Can you provide insights into the current state of marine ecosystems worldwide and the key challenges they face?

What is your favorite class that you are teaching/taught and why?

How does climate change impact marine environments, and what are some strategies for mitigating its effects on ocean ecosystems?

If you could form a policy to help protect the ocean what would that policy entail?

Can you discuss the role of marine protected areas in conservation efforts, and how effective are they in preserving biodiversity and ecosystem health?

In your opinion what are the main drivers of overfishing and habitat destruction in marine environments, and how can these issues be addressed?

How do marine affairs intersect with social justice issues, indigenous rights, and community-based conservation efforts?

If you could tell everyone in the world one thing about Marine conservation, what would you want them to know?

What work have you done that was the most meaningful to you personally and why?

What was the most successful project you have been apart of?

What do you feel is the impactful thing that you have accomplished in the face of marine conservation?

What are you currently working on? What do you hope that will accomplish?

I did a simple internet search for background information on Susan Faraday and found some useful information about her at UNE’s website and LinkedIn she even has an article written about her from NOAA.

So unfortunately since my interview with Mrs. Faraday isn’t until tomorrow, I don’t have a rough cut done today and therefore I am behind.  But I do have my intro and outro done and recorded.

Intro:

Susan Farady is an Associate Professor of Marine Affairs at the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine. She teaches courses in interdisciplinary marine law and policy, oversees curriculum offerings, and researches ocean governance. I decided to choose her because I know her passion and dedication about the conservation of the marine environment and wildlife have inspired me and so many other students. When she teaches her class you can tell that she truly cares about the subject and her students. For this podcast I decided to talk about her experience doing a semester at sea.

Outro:

That’s all I have about Susan Faraday for today, thanks for listening. Have a blessed day (credit music)
