Outcome # 4

Outcome # 4

(Peer Review) – Be able to critique their own and others’ work by emphasizing global revision early in the writing process and local revision later in the process.

In high school I did little to no peer review it was never a requirement and I always only left time for what was required. The only kind of peer review I remember doing is sending my papers to a family member to briefly look it over before I turn it in. I have never really been taught a certain way to make revisions and have always only thought of revisions as surface level things like capitalization and punctuation.

When I heard that we would be doing peer review and spending a whole class just looking at someone else’s paper and having them look at mine I was not excited. Although This definitely did light a fire under my butt to get the essay rough drafts in on time though. Showing up with a very rough draft that barley meets the page count on peer review day is not a fun experience. But every time I got advice from my peers I found it useful and usually ended up taking the advice that my peers gave me.

here is an example of some constructive criticism I received on paper #1

This was the paragraph before Margarets comment

and this is the paragraph after

You can see that by adding Margarets comment it added some length and some clarity to the paragraph. I explained a little more who the Westboro baptists church was and this makes it clear how dramatic of a change of heart phelps had. I feel that peer review was extremely helpful for me for organizing my ideas and driving my claims forward.
