Audio Playground #1

Audio Playground #1

The prompt we were tasked with for Audio Playground #1 was to make a podcast of a place inside or outside By using characteristic noises and narrative to help describe that place to a particular person. While making the podcast we were supposed to have that person in mind and why the podcast would be helpful for them. I decided to do my podcast in the place where I spend the majority of my time. My workplace (Starbucks at the Biddeford Target) and I decided to have my podcast be for a potential new employee. I think this podcast would be helpful to a new employee because they could get a taste for the normal interactions that the baristas have with the costumers and if the new employee is not comfortable with constantly interacting with the costumers and other employees that is useful to know before applying for the job. The new employee could also hear all of the different nosies in the background to see how loud it is all the time for people who get overstimulated by noise these things would also be useful to know. For the actual filming of the audio I recorded all of the noises while I was at work on Monday. I recorded the noises that the ice machine makes, the sounds that the Expresso machine makes the sound of pouring a drink and the sound of cleaning a cup. To get the customer interaction I didn’t feel comfortable enough to do it at work with a stranger so I had my roomate pretend to order a drink (which she was not very happy about) you can probably tell by her voice in the recording. But I had to work with what I had. While I was at work I feel like I should have recorded more nosies but I will keep that in mind for next time. I also had a hard time adjusting the audio around the costumer interaction because my voice is loud and clear and my roomates was kind of soft and mumbly so that made that audio clip hard to work with looking back I would have taken another clip and asked my roomate to speak up a little but she was already kind of irritated that she had to help at all so I didn’t want to ask her again. Also I didn’t realize how bad it was until I put the clip into garage band and listened with headphones and by that point it was to late also something to keep in mind for next time.
