English 110

Official Course Description:

This course introduces students to writing as a conscious and developmental activity. Students learn to read, think, and write in response to a variety of texts, to integrate their ideas with those of others, and to treat writing as a recursive process. Through this work with texts, students are exposed to a range of reading and writing techniques they can employ in other courses. Students work individually and collaboratively, participate in peer review, and learn to take more responsibility for their writing development. Placement into this course is determined by multiple measures, including high school achievement and SAT scores. 4.000 Credit hours

My Course Description:

In English 110 students will expand their writing skills and learn new techniques to help them with their writing, annotating and critical thinking skills . Students should expect homework everyday in the class: three major essays and lots of peer review. At the beginning of each class the professor does a “freewrite” which is basically just like an icebreaker funny question to get the class thinking and writing when done writing our responses everyone goes around the room and shares their answer to the freewrite. I really enjoyed these and they were definitely my favorite part of the class. The workload in this class is decent but not overbearing. If you are good with time management you should do just fine in the class. The work is really straightforward and well explained. For every big project and essay he had assigned he put up past examples from his students on his website and I found that very helpful. There is extensive peer review and revision in this class but I think that my skills in those areas improved significantly during the course so it’s worth it.
