Lammot Response

From what Lamott has to say writing a first draft is absolutely not about the product and all about the process. Or another way you can think of it is the act of creating is more important than the result. Lamott points out that very few writers really know what they are doing until they’ve done it and that It’s important to enjoy the journey instead of just focusing  on the results. Writing doesn’t come naturally to most people so it’s important to not get hung up on little things and that’s what a first draft is for starting to get anything down on the paper. As it states in the article “the first draft is the downdraft – you just get it down”. This has always been a hard concept for me with first drafts. Once I feel like things aren’t starting to make sense it’s hard for me to not go back and pick it apart right then and there. But it’s important to not get stuck like that because if you don’t explore all those paths that your ideas take you you might miss something that could seriously enrich your paper or take you in a new direction.
