Reflection on the project as a whole

I think this project was very intriguing and it gave me a new perspective on journalism. I really enjoyed this project and getting to know the topic of costal erosion better I learned a lot as a journalist and an environmentalist. Coming up with a pitch was easy for me because I knew that I wanted to report on something that was environmentally conscious and there are plenty of opportunities for that on this campus. Ultimately it came down to Sustaining the Saco River Estuary or Costal Erosion on the Biddeford campus. I picked option #2 because I knew Pam Morgan would be willing to do an interview with me and I was finding more accessible information about it online. When it came to gathering information these resources helped me out a great deal. Also my interview with pam went great she reached back out to me almost immediately and we had our interview a few days later a lot of the information in my article came directly from the interview with her and the documentary “Recking with climate change”. When it came to assembling the information I struggled with that a little bit I have never written in a news article style so that was hard to adjust to and a kept finding myself reverting back to essay style on accident. After the multiple drafts and feedback from peers I think I got the hang of it in the end. The peer review or “feedback groups” that we did were unlike any other peer reviews I have ever done. It was cool to have the whole class look at the same pieces and critique them together and see the different opinion’s and editing styles throughout the class. I think the feedback groups were an overall a really good experience and they definitely helped me tune up my final draft. I think this project helped us grow and helped us to know what to do and what not to do when writing future articles.
