Journal Three:
Journal #3: Finding and Interpreting Job Ads
Build on your journal #2 and the results of your personality/communication/emotional intelligence tests and write a post that 1.) describes what these tests claim about you 2.) what you this is accurate, surprising, or inaccurate, and 3.) how you might use the results to tailor your self presentation in your professional materials.
My response:
- So for the personality test it claims that I am the Mediator which means that
“As an INFP (Mediator), you possess a rich inner world brimming with imagination, empathy, and idealism. Your compassionate nature and deep-seated desire to understand the human experience make you a natural confidant and source of support for those around you. You approach life with a sense of wonder, always seeking meaning and authenticity in your experiences and relationships.
Your creativity is a wellspring of inspiration, often manifesting in unique ideas and innovative solutions to complex problems. However, this same creativity can sometimes lead you to become lost in daydreams, making it challenging to navigate the more practical aspects of life. You have a profound capacity for empathy, allowing you to connect with others on a deep, almost intuitive level.”
The personality test also broke down some of my main characteristics and gave me a percentage for each of them…..
I am 76% Introverted which means that “You likely prefer fewer, yet deep and meaningful, social interactions and feel drawn to calmer environments.”
I am 88% intuitive which means that “You’re likely very imaginative and open-minded, focusing on hidden meanings and distant possibilities.”
I am 90% feeling which means that “You likely value emotional expression and sensitivity, prioritizing empathy, social harmony, and cooperation.”
I am 60% prospecting which means that “You’re likely very adaptable, easygoing and flexible, prioritizing spontaneity over stability.”
I am 92% Turbulent which means that “You’re likely self-conscious, sensitive to stress, success-driven, perfectionistic, and eager to improve.”
For my career path the personality test said that….
“In your professional life, you’re driven by a deep-seated need for meaning and purpose. You thrive in environments that allow you to express your creativity, help others, and stay true to your values. Careers in counseling, teaching, writing, or the arts often appeal to your nurturing nature and imaginative spirit. However, finding the right fit can be a journey of trial and error, as you navigate the balance between your ideals and the realities of the working world. Your ability to think outside the box and empathize with others makes you a valuable asset in many fields, particularly those requiring innovative problem-solving or interpersonal skills. Yet, you may struggle with highly structured environments or roles that involve a lot of routine tasks. Your challenge lies in finding a career that not only aligns with your values but also provides the flexibility and autonomy you crave, allowing you to make a meaningful impact while staying true to yourself.”
For personal growth the personality test said…
“For you, personal growth is an ongoing journey of self-discovery and authenticity. You’re constantly seeking to understand yourself better and to align your actions with your deeply held values. This process of introspection and self-improvement is both rewarding and challenging, as you navigate the complexities of your rich emotional landscape.
Your path to growth often involves learning to balance your idealism with practicality, and developing the resilience to face life’s inevitable disappointments. While your empathy and imagination are great strengths, learning to set boundaries and develop practical skills can help you navigate the world more effectively. Embracing your unique perspective while also accepting your limitations is key to your personal development journey.”
For relationships the personality test said that….
“In relationships, you seek deep, meaningful connections that honor your need for authenticity and personal growth. Your empathy and intuitive understanding of others make you a compassionate friend and partner, capable of forming bonds that go beyond surface-level interactions. You have a gift for creating safe spaces where others feel understood and accepted.
However, your idealistic nature can sometimes lead to challenges in relationships. You may struggle with conflict or become disappointed when others don’t live up to your high expectations. Learning to communicate your needs effectively, set healthy boundaries, and accept others (and yourself) as imperfect beings is crucial for building lasting, fulfilling relationships. While you value close connections, you also need time alone to recharge and reconnect with yourself.”
Now for the other shorter tests…
For the emotional intelligence test I scored 50 and the test said….
“Your emotional intelligence level is…. ok. You probably have good relationships with some of your colleagues, but others may be more difficult to work with. The good news is that you have a great opportunity to improve your working relationships significantly.”
For the growth mindset test I scored 69% growth mindset and 31% fixed. For a growth mindset the test said….
- Intelligence and talent are dynamic
- Embrace challenges
- Appreciate Feedback
- Inspired by others success
- Failure is an opportunity to grow
- Effort is “brain training”
- Focus on the process, not the result
- Acknowledge your weaknesses
And for a fixed mindset the test said….
- Intelligence and talent are static
- Avoid challenges
- Ignore feedback
- Threatened by others success
- Failure is the limit of ability
- Effort is pointless
- Focus on proving yourself
- Stay away from the unfamiliar
My reflection of the test results:
Some of these results I find surprising, others not so much. I strongly agree with the results of the personality test and found them to actually be comforting. I particularly liked the breakdown of certain characteristics with a percentage. I wasn’t surprised with I am 76% Introverted, I am 88% intuitive, I am 90% feeling But I am 60% prospecting surprised be because I wouldn’t consider myself to be easily adaptable and easygoing I consider myself to be the opposite I was taken back by the I am 92% Turbulent response but it does make sense to me. For the personal growth section of the personality test this line hit me like a train “Your path to growth often involves learning to balance your idealism with practicality, and developing the resilience to face life’s inevitable disappointments.” I feel that is so true and not understanding that balance has been the root to many of my past heartbreaks. Evaluating what is and what could be and taking a step back and trying to be more realistic would save me a lot of time and hurt. Another sentence that I feel I closely relate to was under the relationships when it stated “However, your idealistic nature can sometimes lead to challenges in relationships. You may struggle with conflict or become disappointed when others don’t live up to your high expectations.” Very similar to the statement in personal growth I expect people to show up for me the same way that I would show up for them and when people in my life don’t do that it’s very confusing and disappointing for me. The test hit those emotions on the head. For the emotional intelligence test I was insulted by the answers. I have rarely had issues in my professional relationships and would consider myself to be more emotionally intelligent than average but maybe I need to reevaluate that. For the growth vs fixed mindset test I liked that it gave me a higher percentage of growth mindset at 69% but the number 31% for fixed mindset was still to high for my liking. I believe that a fixed mind is a dangerous one and would consider myself to be fairly open minded.
