For this project students were instructed to write a 3-5 page (1000 word, minimum) paper, explaining the role of a liberal arts education and examining how we see our future and short term goals (personal, academic, extracurricular) linked to ideas in our readings. I struggled with writing this paper but it was definitely an experience that I learned from being my first college essay. Writing this paper was extremely useful when helping me connect ideas in the readings and overall to help me gain a better understanding of how my liberal arts education will benefit me in my future careers. I have always heard the misconceptions about majors in the liberal arts and frankly it almost scared me away. After writing this paper my fears were not only alleviated but totally resolved. One main takeaway I had from this project is that The knowledge that I will gained through my classes and experiences will empower me and prepare me to think critically, develop a sense of social responsibility, and most importantly my Liberal arts degree should provide me the ability to become a “lifelong learner, engaged citizen and someone who can adapt to change and to multiple career paths.
