Official Course Description:

Digital Video Studio 1 develops fundamental motion-picture production skills, including directing, cinematography, camera operation, lighting, audio capture, and non-linear editing. Students will learn how to safely operate camera, audio, and lighting equipment in a dedicated production studio and on location. Students will become familiar with the roles of departments, their crew positions, and the equipment associated with each department. Students will be involved in narrative, commercial, broadcast/streaming, and documentary projects, rotating through the different crew positions required for each style of production.

Student Course Description:

I got to work directly with cameras, lighting, and audio equipment, learning how to use them in both a studio and on-location setting. I learned how to safely operate industry-standard equipment and gained experience working with a team. Rotating through different crew roles helped me understand how crucial each department is to the success of a project, and I feel more confident in my abilities. Learning how to operate the camera and understand the lighting setup was crucial for my work, and I appreciated the opportunity to experiment with different video styles—narrative, broadcast, and commercial. It was a great introduction to the behind-the-scenes aspects of video production, and I now feel prepared to tackle more advanced projects

This project was our Photo Roman Project. For this project we were instructed to create a Photo Roman, sequence of animated/edited still images. Using 10-15 images to tell a 30-45 second long story. The only limitations we had were that we could not use dialogue, title cards or stop motion. This project was unique because what everyone came up with was so different. For my project I wanted to portray a pumpkins journey home from the store to become a Jack-o-Lantern. Even though I couldn’t use dialogue I wanted the story to show that the pumpkin thought he was getting a nice loving home when he was picked up from the grocery store but then had to face the harsh reality pumpkins have to face during Halloween time kind of like Turkeys on Thanksgiving. Of course there are things that I would tweak if I had more time but overall this was a fun project to make and Im happy with the result.
